Thanks, Stephenie Meyer!

No, this isn't about Twilight! :) I was perusing her website the other day to see if anything had been updated and her latest was on some book/music recommendations. I've been itching for a new read so I decided to pick up The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Here is a quick blurb:

The Hunger Games takes place in an unidentified future time period after the destruction of North America, in a nation known as Panem. Panem consists of a rich Capitol and twelve surrounding, poorer districts. As punishment for a previous rebellion against the Capitol, every year one boy and one girl from each district are forced to participate in "The Hunger Games", a televised event whereby the participants, or "tributes", must fight to the death in an outdoor arena until only one remains. The story follows 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12 who volunteers for the Games in place of her younger sister, Primrose. Also participating from District 12 is Peeta Mellark, a boy whom Katniss knows from school and who once gave Katniss bread when her family was starving.

I was a little weary at first, as I knew this book would be a bit... violent, and I normally don't do violence. However, I was intrigued by SM's review and recommendation so I gave it a shot... SO good! So so so sooooooooooooooo incredibly good! It makes you stop and think about how far we've come with reality TV and how much further we might one day go... scary, really.

So yeah, if you're looking for a good read, check it out! Catching Fire, the sequel (its a planned trilogy) is being released next week, on Sept.1st. When I went and got book 1, Catching Fire was actually already sitting out but I had no idea it hadn't yet been released. I wonder if I had tried to buy it, if they would have let me... When I went back today to see if it was still there (after I realized it wasn't "officially" out yet) they had removed it from the shelves. When I asked, they told me it was a mistake and while they have them, they can't sell them just yet... grrr!!! Oh well, it's only a week... :p
